In addition to the February Photo Challenge, I have also decided to keep track of the words I have had to look up while reading. I was alarmed at the number of words I was looking up while reading the children's book, 'The Phantom Tollbooth'. Recently, I began to read 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' and decided I would start my log of words. Mind you, I am of Swedish heritage so the Swedish terms used in the book are not the ones to trip me up as a coworker of mine noted she struggled with.

Here goes:

Scion -- A descendant.
Enmity -- Feeling or condition of hostility. Hatred or ill-will.
Anon -- In short time. Soon.
Ardent -- Intensely devoted, eager, passionate.
Lorry -- (British) Large motor truck.
Indemnified -- To compensate for damge or loss sustained.
Anathema -- Person detested or loathed.
Vouchsafed -- To grant or give, as by favor.
Recalcitrant -- Resisting authority or control.

Just a hair over two chapters in and I have looked up nine words! At least I can say I am learning something.
